Small church consulting

Walking with small churches

God loves small churches. So do we. Strong Small Churches is a church consulting firm helping congregations and their leaders find stability, direction, and hope. When pastoral leadership changes or the future feels uncertain, an experienced pastor walks beside your congregation as you find your next faithful step.

A church’s value is not measured by its attendance.

A small congregation can worship faithfully, care for its people, serve its neighbors, and bear witness to Christ. Its size does not make its ministry less meaningful.

Strong Small Churches offers pastoral companionship when a church is between pastors, recovering from strain, or wondering what it can sustain. We begin by listening, praying, and discovering the strengths God has already placed among you. Your leaders and congregation remain responsible for their decisions.

A steady pastoral relationship with a clear rhythm.

We begin with a conversation and a written understanding of the work. Together, we name the people who should be heard, a few signs of progress, and the support your church actually needs.

01 / STABILITY

Find your footing

Regular conversations with leaders, prayer, careful listening beyond the board when appropriate, and attention to worship and essential responsibilities.

02 / STRENGTHS

See what God has given you

Name the gifts, relationships, ministries, resources, and local leadership already present. Add simple systems where they would ease the load.

03 / DIRECTION

Discern what comes next

Consider realistic options for pastoral leadership and mission. Review progress together and let the congregation choose its next faithful step.

Keep gathering. Keep worshiping.

For a church between pastors, Sunday can feel especially fragile. Strong Small Churches can help local leaders plan worship, prayer, Scripture, and preaching support appropriate to the church’s tradition.

The congregation remains the worshiping community. Recorded teaching or other resources, when useful and agreed upon, can bridge a season while local leadership grows and sustainable pastoral options take shape.

“What would it look like for this congregation, with the people and resources God has actually given it, to take its next faithful step?”

Begin with an honest conversation.

We begin with a no-charge, 45-minute conversation about your congregation’s strengths, challenges, and hopes. If a pastoral partnership is a good fit, we agree on a clear plan for 90 days of support at $500 per month.

Throughout our work together, your church receives regular pastoral conversation, prayer, and practical guidance tailored to its needs. We help your leaders identify priorities, build on the congregation’s gifts, and take concrete steps toward a faithful, sustainable future.

Pastor Aaron and his wife smiling together outdoors

I have been a small church pastor for nearly thirty years, serving four congregations. I love small churches dearly and believe they are special places: people know one another, share life and faith, and can serve their neighbors in deeply personal ways. I also know the tenderness and complexity of leading a church through change.

I hold a B.A. in Accounting, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctor of Ministry, all from Anderson University. In this work, I bring pastoral care together with careful listening, clear observation, and practical action.

I am based in Rochester, Minnesota, and I serve small churches with curiosity, candor, and hope.
